Nearly two years after the fatal I-95 collapse in Tacony, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released its final report, writes 6abc Digital Staff.
The report lists a number of factors that led to the highway collapse and subsequent truck crash that proceeded.
In the report, it was founded that driver Nathan Moody was speeding, going 25 miles per hour above the speed limit.
That’s not the only finding, however.
“The driver’s failure to slow the vehicle as he exited the interstate onto the exit ramp well above the posted advisory speed limit, due to inattention to the roadway potentially associated with fatigue,” the report said.
In addition, the investigators noted that Moody left a 16-inch hole open during his inspection prior to the trip. This allowed the gasoline being delivered to a Oxford Avenue Wawa to enter into the environment and spread throughout the crash area as it overturned.
After the fiery crash and collapse happened, an interim six-lane roadway was constructed. However, the more permanent repair was completed less than a year later in May 2024.
