SS United States Now Expected to Leave South Philly on Wednesday, Feb. 19

The SS United States is now expected to leave Philadelphia for Mobile, Alabama, on Feb. 19 after recent delays due to high winds.

The SS United States now has a new date set for its long-awaited departure from South Philadelphia, that being Wednesday, February 19, according to a KYW Newsradio staff report.

The historic ship was moved last Friday from Pier 82 to Pier 80. From there, it was supposed to start a move south on Monday, however the move was delayed due to excessive winds.

As currently planned, the SS United States will leave Philadelphia on Wednesday at around 12:50 PM around low tide.

The vessel is supposed to then arrive to Mobile, Alabama.

There, it will have its hazardous materials stripped and then embark on another move off the coast of Florida to become the world’s largest artificial reef.
