Baltimore-Based Food Startup SIMPLi Moves Headquarters to Philadelphia

SIMPLi, known for its organic pantry products, has moved its headquarters to Philadelphia as it plans further expansion for the company.

SIMPLi, the sustainable food startup born in Baltimore, has moved its headquarters to Philadelphia with eyes toward further expansion, writes Ryan Mulligan for PHL Inno.

The fast-growing startup is known for selling organic pantry essentials, such as olive oil, quinoa, and various kinds of beans and salts.

SIMPLi products, which are produced through supply chain partners with thousands of farmers throughout Europe and South America, are sold in 3,000 stores in every U.S. state. Among the stores include Whole Foods Market, National Co-Op Grocers, and Giant Food. Its ingredients are sold directly to thousands of restaurants and grocery stores.

“We’re just really focused on putting our roots here in Philadelphia and being able to support this really incredible, vibrant food scene and just build the team,” said Sarela Herrada, who co-founded the company with her husband Matt Cohen.

Founded in 2020, SIMPLi has grown its retail footprint 173 percent in the last year.

SIMPLi recently opened a warehouse about an hour north of Philadelphia, and also has an office in Lima, Peru, where Herrada is originally from.

Currently at 40 employees between the two offices, the co-CEOs want to grew the company’s headcount as 10 openings are available in the new Philly corporate office.
