Lower Makefield Native Robert Costa: From Covering Eagles in High School to Interviewing Presidents

Robert Costa interviews President Joe Biden on CBS Sunday Morning. Lower Makefield Township native and CBS News correspondent Robert Costa went from covering the Eagles for his high school newspaper to interviewing presidents.

Lower Makefield native Robert Costa started his career covering the Eagles for his high school television station, writes Victor Fiorillo for the Philadelphia Magazine.

Over the years, he rose through the ranks of various media, including The Washington Post, wrote a book with journalism legend Bob Woodward, and is now a leading political correspondent for CBS News in Washington.

In August, Costa interviewed President Joe Biden shortly after he ended his reelection bid.

“That was the first and only time he did an interview in his residence, and I was the first person to interview him on TV after he made that decision,” said Costa. “I have been able to build relationships across the board. One of my secrets is that I stay in touch with people when they are not on top.”

He is also quick to point to the changes that he noticed in President Donald Trump in their recent conversations.

“When I’ve spoken with Trump lately, he’s been very calm,” he said. “When I spoke with him on Election Day, he was someone very comfortable with how he ran his campaign. And he is comfortable now with power.”
