Nonprofit organization Fiorenza’s Food 4 Friends is continuing food distribution efforts across the Philadelphia region, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.
Fiorenza’s Food 4 Friends is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ending hunger across the country. The organization collects food through both donations and food drives, and offers cooking programs to independently cook food for donation.
Recently, the nonprofit delivered food to Safe Harbor in West Chester, as well as Sarnelli House in Philadelphia.
Fiorenza’s Food 4 Friends was first developed by Derek Fiorenza in 2007, after he asked the catering team at a volunteer event if they would consider donating meals to a local homeless shelter.
With the help of Jason Litman, a childhood friend, Fiorenza officially registered it as a Pennsylvania nonprofit organization in 2011. Fiorenza serves as the nonprofit’s founder and president, and Litman serves as a board member.
But F4’s efforts are not limited to Pennsylvania. Currently, the nonprofit serves residents in over thirty-five states.
Now, nearly twenty years after his initial donation efforts, Fiorenza stays true to the original goal of the project: to “eradicate world hunger by connecting sources of food to recipients in need.”
