Brian Propp, a Philadelphia Flyers great, has released a new memoir highlighting his resilience amid his stroke recovery, writes Dave Uram for KYW Newsradio.
The book is titled, Angel on My Wing: A Story of Faith, Determination and Courage.
“My story is about faith and a little bit hockey and my stroke and how I recovered from my stroke because it will give people hope in rehab… So, lots of hints in the book about what I did to make myself better,” said Propp.
Propp played 11 of his 15 years in the NHL with the Flyers, including the entirety of the 1980s.
He was a member of the 1980, 1985, and 1987 teams that went to the Stanley Cup Finals. Propp also ranks in the Flyers’ top 5 of several categories, including games played, goals, assists, and points.
In 2015, about two decades after ending his playing career, Propp suffered a debilitating stroke.
While the book covers his childhood in Saskatchewan, as well as his NHL career, his main purpose in writing it is to bring awareness and be a resource for people growing through what he experienced with his health.
“It can help a lot of people that have strokes,” Propp said of the book.
