Local business owner Loraine Houston offers a variety of shortbread cookies through her shop in West Chester, writes Tamala Edwards for 6abc.
Houston, a trained chef, started baking shortbread in 2016 as a stay-at-home mother. She later packed the cookies for her youngest son Blake for his summer job in the Hamptons, where the family spent their summers. As the shortbread caught on in popularity, Houston began selling the cookies under Blake’s Mother’s Cookies.
Houston uses a classic shortbread as a base for all cookies. The bases are then flavored with herbs and spices to make six flavors, with a seventh seasonal flavor for the holidays.
The flavor names, including Montauk Macaroon and Sag Harbor spice, reference the family’s connection to the Hamptons.
Houston spends six days per week baking the shortbread cookies, which she sells both in-person at select stores and online.
Blake’s Mother’s Cookies can be found on both Instagram and Facebook @blakesmotherscookies.
