Priya Check and her 23-year-old son Ethan are opening a nine-court indoor pickleball center in Plymouth Meeting, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Last Year, Check was troubled seeing her son looking for a job after graduating college.
“I saw him going on these interviews for nine-to-five jobs and he just seemed so uninspired,” she said.
At the same time, she was thinking about how much her entire family enjoyed playing pickleball and how hard it was to find an indoor facility where they could play during the winter months. That is when she proposed she and Ethan team up and start their own center for the increasingly popular sport.
They started working on plans for Pickle Place, which is expected to open early next year.
The 26,500-square-foot pickleball complex will be set up in a vacant warehouse space at 1850 N. Gravers Road. In addition to the nine courts, it will have a smaller warm-up court and a cardio warm-up room, as well as training technology, a players’ lounge, a party and event room, and a pro shop.
The family has managed to raise over $500,000 for the venture, including $250,000 of their own money.
