A new Joel Embiid mural was recently unveiled at the Alan Horwitz “Sixth Man” Center in Nicetown, writes Nigel Thompson for KYW Newsradio.
The venue, which opened earlier this year, also features a court named in memory of Embiid’s late younger brother, Arthur, who was killed in a car accident in Cameroon in 2014.
The court is one of seven in the center. The Sixth Man Center is run by Philadelphia Youth Basketball.
Embiid is dedicated to giving back to the community and supporting the city’s youth as hosted a block party where the mural was unveiled.
“The next generation is gonna be important, so yeah, I mean, that’s always been my belief and my goal,” said Embiid.
“Growing up, having been around a lot of struggle, that’s always been a goal of mine, to have some sort of impact, especially with the youth,” he added.
Accompanying the mural unveiling was new teammates Paul George, Andre Drummond, Guerschon Yabusele, and star point guard Tyrese Maxey.
