Howley Foundation recently gifted $1 million to Kensington’s Liguori Academy in support of the private independent high school’s “Career Cohorts” program, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The gift will help expand the school’s ability to graduate students with certificates in a number of technology, health care, and arts fields.

Founded in 2001 by Nick and Lorie Howley, the Howley Foundation provides support to educational institutions primarily in Philadelphia and Cleveland.

Liguori Academy, on the other hand, was founded by Michael Marrone in 2016. The aim of the nonprofit school was to prepare students from Philadelphia’s low-income areas for college and careers. The school meets 100 percent of its students’ financial needs. Around 80 percent of students move onto college after graduation, while the remaining 20 percent opt for trade school, the military, or joining the workforce.

Howley Foundation has already gifted Philadelphia-area schools with tens of millions of dollars so far this year. This includes a record-breaking $12 million gift to St. Joseph’s Preparatory School, as well as a $15 million donation to Drexel University – both of which are Nick Howley’s alma maters.

The foundation has provided 1,200 students with tuition assistance in 2024 alone.
