Election Day Security Efforts a Top Priority in Montgomery County

Montgomery County law enforcement is stepping up efforts to safeguard democracy on Election Day, reports Justin Heinze for the Patch. Officials aim to crack down on potential threats and interference.

District Attorney Kevin Steele emphasized a zero-tolerance stance on threats to officials and volunteers, ensuring safety during the election. The newly established Threat Assessment Management Unit will investigate any credible threats, while county detectives will handle all reported tips.

A special tip line (610-292-2024) is available for residents to report suspicious activities around ballot boxes or polling places.

“We’re standing together to ensure a fair and safe election,” Kevin Steele said, referring to both Election Day and the days leading up to it. A dedicated team of prosecutors and detectives will be on standby for any incidents that arise on Nov. 5.

While heightened security is in place for 2024, many of these precautions are routine. The tip line and a countywide Election Day team are standard procedures from previous elections.

Montgomery County has also expanded voter services by doubling its offices, aiming for record voter turnout.

Election-related concerns can also be sent to the assistant district attorney at [email protected].
