Fox Chase Woman Launches Running Club That Has Forged Friendships and Support Between Women

Philly Slow Girl Run Club provides a space for women to get together and run at their own pace while meeting other women.

The ‘Philly Slow Girl Run Club’ is a running club in Philadelphia that has created a community of support for women in the region, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

The club was launched in 2021 by Fox Chase native, Paige Black.

“I didn’t know there was such a need for slow running until I started this,” she said.

Though she hated running growing up, in 2020, she had a change of heart.

Since everything was closed and she didn’t have many other things to do, she decided to look up running clubs as a way to meet new people who ran slowly like her.

However, she couldn’t find any. So, she launched her own.

“I feel like we are less intimidating because we run so slowly. You don’t have to keep up with anybody, you can go at your own pace,” said Black. “It’s very conversational, so it’s very easy to just pick it up.”

Since the group was launched in 2021, it has grown from just a few members to now include roughly 40 to 50 women across their frequent running events.

Black started the group without knowing anyone, but now she has a made dozens of new friends through it.
