New Pennsylvania Commemorative License Plates with Liberty Bell Coming Next Year

A decorative new Pennsylvania license plate featuring the Liberty Bell to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the country will become available in 2025, writes Layla A. Jones for The Philadelphia Inquirer

In addition to an image of the Liberty Bell, the new off-white license plates will have blue number lettering and the phrase “Let Freedom Ring” in red lettering.

Pennsylvania residents can sign up to receive information on how to secure these commemorative plates. The plates will become available in spring next year, ahead of the 2026 semiquincentennial celebration.

According to PennDOT spokesperson Alexis Campbell, the cost of the commemorative plates is still unknown, but currently, it costs $13 to replace most plates.

Gov. Josh Shapiro and PennDot, who made the new license plate announcement, also said that new highway signs will be placed in honor of the nation’s anniversary.

They will be similarly simple and retro-looking. The white signs will sport letters in red and blue, reading “Welcome to Pennsylvania,” “Est. 1681,″ and “Let Freedom Ring.”

Eight signs have already been installed, with 29 more expected to be put in place over the coming months.
