Construction has commenced for a new Wawa convenience store and gas station on a 4.95-acre site at the corner of Newtown Bypass and Lower Silver Lake Road in Newtown Township, writes Tom Sofield for Newtown PA Now.
In recent days, crews have worked diligently to clear the area of brush and trees, preparing the ground for the new store. The Wawa, which will span 5,585 square feet, is set to feature six fuel pumps.
Notably, the project includes an environmentally conscious addition: solar panels will be installed on the gas pump canopy, a commitment made by Wawa earlier this year as part of their sustainability efforts.
The construction of this Wawa is the culmination of a lengthy legal and administrative process.
Supervisor John Mack highlighted the importance of the solar panel installation, emphasizing the township’s dedication to incorporating green energy solutions in new developments.
