The Former Site of Byberry State Hospital in Northeast Philadelphia To Be Turned into Industrial Warehouse Space

The site of Byberry State Hospital will be transformed into new industrial spaces.

Rockefeller Group and PCCP, LLC have come together to purchase the former site of the Byberry State Hospital in Northeast Philadelphia, The Northeast Times reports.

The purchase will lead to the development of Rockefeller Group Logistics Center at Roosevelt Boulevard, which includes two industrial warehouses.

This will be Rockefeller Group’s first industrial project in Philadelphia, a market the firm believes is one “that has been historically overlooked.”

“We believe this site is ideally located to be able to serve the city of Philadelphia and the surrounding areas given its close proximity to major roadways throughout the region,” said Heath Abramsohn, vice president and regional director for Rockefeller Group’s NJ/PA region.

Decades ago, Byberry was shuttered and the land was acquired by the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) in 2003.

Since then, PIDC has worked to redevelop the site in an intentional and meaningful way that will provide jobs and opportunities to Philadelphians.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the investment … that will transform this location into a viable economic asset and bring growth to our city. This investment further demonstrates Philadelphia’s unique strengths as a business destination,” said PIDC President Jodie Harris.

The two warehouses are expected to be complete by mid-2025.
