When Eric Jones sees his students, he sees himself, and when he sees the parents, it reminds him of his own parents.
Putting himself in their situation helps drive his passion and commitment to educating Philadelphia youth, writes Racquel Williams for KYW Newsradio.
Jones is the head of school at Community Partnership School in North Central Philadelphia, an independent pre-K through 5th grade school that provides a well-rounded and affordable education for students in the community.
“When we invest in those early years, and our kids, we put them on a path that leads to lifelong well being and success that they’re more likely to stay on,” said Jones.
For his students, Jones instills the Three C’s — curiosity, courage, and compassion, all values that he works to ensure the students carry with them through life.
He even remains in contact with many of the students who have graduated.
“That’s what my school is about,” he said. “Trying to open those doors of access. And we tell families: Whatever your financial situation … we’ll make it work.”
Jones is a firm believer in the village concept as a way of investing in the lives of young children and uses that approach with the entire CPS staff.
