Wissahickon Brewing Company Eyes Opening Second Taproom in Olde Kensington
Already with one location in East Falls, Wissahickon Brewing Company is opening a new taproom in Olde Kensington, writes Michael Tanenbaum for PhillyVoice.
The new taproom will double as a kombucha production facility, and have a kitchen and also a private event space in the upper level.
The new space at 1526 N. American St. will be the former venue of Original 13 Ciderworks, which shut down last year after about six years in operation.
While the craft brewing industry has seen several challenges in recent years, Wissahickon Brewing’s Tim Gill has strong belief in the power delicious beer has in bringing people together.
“There’s just no denying that fresh, hand-crafted beer just tastes better,” he said. “The environment of drinking it where it’s made is different.”
According to data from the Brewers Association, beer shipments in the U.S. fell to their lowest levels since 1999 last year.
Despite this, small and independent brewers’ share of the market has grown in recent years.
Gill, who runs the business with his three sons, opened the first location in 2017, and began exploring the idea of an expansion during the COVID-19 pandemic.
They are targeting a summer opening for the second location.
