Newsweek recently announced its inaugural list of “America’s Greenest Companies” and Philadelphia-based Aramark is on the list.

Aramark is the largest food and facilities services provider in the United States.

The first ranking of America’s Greenest Companies identified the top 300 companies in the U.S. based on environmental sustainability.

The companies were all evaluated and scored on over 25 parameters based on 4 categories: greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, waste generation, and sustainability data disclosure and commitments.

“We are proud of this recognition as a validation of the work we are doing every day — in partnership with our clients and customers — to deliver sustainable and responsible food and facilities services,” said Alan Horowitz, vice president of sustainability at Aramark. 

“There is still so much to do, but we remain focused on making progress against our commitments each day,” he added. 

 Aramark’s strategy for sustainability includes plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, report transparently on progress, and work to implement and innovate initiatives and programs to drive progress and results.

Earlier this year, Aramark announced it had secured Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi)-validated global GHG reduction targets, including near-term targets to significantly reduce emissions in direct operations and supply chain, and a commitment to reach net-zero GHG emissions across the enterprise by 2050.
