Center City Businesses Are Seeing Shoppers Return At Near Pre-Pandemic Levels

A new Center City District report shows that Center City businesses are seeing close shoppers close to pre-pandemic levels.

Center City District recently released a report that shows that shoppers have returned to downtown Philadelphia at near the pre-pandemic rate, writes Hayden Mitman for NBC 10 Philadelphia

This is shown in foot traffic, retail sales, and new jobs.

According to the report, October’s daily Center City foot traffic was found to be at roughly 82% of what it was in 2019.

In addition, more than 84% of downtown storefronts are open for business, a significant increase from the low of about 55% in April 2020.

This year, Center City has also added 80 new retail shops, restaurants, and service-oriented businesses.

The CCD is anticipating another 28 businesses to open in the near future, each bringing a slew of new jobs with them.

“As cities across the United States are recovering at different rates from the events of the past three years, Philadelphia continues to be at the forefront of recovery with rising indicators in nearly all sectors,” said CCD President Paul Levy in a statement.

Center City Philadelphia ranks fourth in the average daily number of downtown pedestrians.

Beyond these indicators, Center City has also seen an 18% increase in office workers and in-person workforce foot traffic compared to this time last year.
