Meet the Sisters and Chef-Owners Making Delicious Mac and Cheese Dishes at Mac Mart
Sisters Marti Lieberman and Pamela Lorden, chef-owners of Philadelphia’s Mac Mart, love to make the food that makes all of us feel a glow inside: mac and cheese, writes Alicia Vitarelli for 6abc.
The siblings started their business in 2013, when they bought a food truck and then brought it to the Drexel University campus. Since then, Mac Mart has evolved significantly and is now a brick-and-mortar staple in Rittenhouse Square. The sisters are also preparing to open a second location in Ardmore.
While some consider them mac and cheese queens, their journey with the popular meal did not start off so well.
“We weren’t allowed to eat it as kids,” the sisters said, laughing.
While they were in college, Lorden decided to make mac and cheese for her graduation party. Her dish was so popular that soon she and her sister decided to turn it into a business.
When preparing the dish, they start with their famous seven-cheese mac and cheese and then build on it to create different and mind-blowingly tasty bowls.
“‘In the Buff’ is our best-seller, hands down,” said Lorden. “If we do 250 bowls a day, 150 of them are the ‘In the Buff.’ People love buffalo chicken.”
