Legend Biotech has chosen Philadelphia to house its new research and development center. The 31,000-square-foot facility will occupy the third floor of Breakthrough Properties' eight-story building at 2300 Market Street.

Legend Biotech, a North Jersey biotechnology company, has chosen Philadelphia to house its new research and development center, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The 31,000-square-foot facility will occupy the third floor of Breakthrough Properties’ eight-story building at 2300 Market Street. The building is currently under construction and scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2025.

The company expects its new Center City site to eventually be home to 55 full-time employees, in addition to its current workforce of more than 1,200 across the country.

Legend Biotech CEO Ying Huang said the company chose Philadelphia because the region is a “prime location to attract top talent and strengthen [the company’s] partnerships with local, leading research institutions.”

Guowei Fang, the company’s chief scientific officer and heard of business development, added similar remarks about the Philly selection.

“We are particularly enthusiastic about the proximity to leading academic institutions in Philadelphia that are at the forefront of medical breakthroughs as we focus on advancing our sustainable pipeline of innovative cell therapies,” said Fang.

Legend Biotech expects to open its new Philly facility in the third quarter of 2025.
