Philadelphia Native Hosts New Crime Show, Reflects on Decades-Long Law Enforcement Career
Chris McMullin is the host of Philly Homicide, a new Oxygen True Crime show about murder cases in his native Philadelphia, writes Stephanie Gomulka for Oxygen.
The 10-episode docuseries highlights a different murder case each week.
McMullin spent several years as a patrol officer with the Philadelphia Police Department before becoming a detective with the Bensalem Police Department, where he investigated homicides, sex crimes, assaults, and robberies.
He is currently a lieutenant with the Bucks County Sheriff’s Office.
Growing up in Philly, McMullin’s grandmother’s home in North Wildwood was very close to the Jersey Shore city’s police station.
As a child, he once fell off his bike and two cops helped him off the ground. This experience sparked his desire to work in law enforcement someday.
He’d go back each summer and get to know the officers. At age 19, he applied to be a seasonal police officer.
McMullin started out as a dispatcher before attending the police academy. He was officially hired by the Philadelphia Police Department in the fall of 1990.
“I love the Philadelphia area, obviously, it’s my home,” McMullin said. “It is unique. There’s a lot of different areas [that] have different cultures.”
One of the many cases he worked on in Philly will be featured on an upcoming episode of Philly Homicide.
