Long Awaited Amazon Fresh Store in Willow Grove Nearing Grand Opening
After years of planning and delays, the Amazon Fresh store at Willow Grove Shopping Center is showing signs of progress, reports Ryan Genova for Glenside Local.
Job listings for a Grocery Associate position have appeared on Amazon’s site. Store associates have also been seen entering the building.
Plans for the Willow Grove location began in April 2020 when Amazon signed a lease agreement with Federal Realty Investment Trust. A liquor license was transferred from Oh Bryon’s Roast Beef in 2022. However, by May 2023, the shopping center’s landlord filed a lawsuit against Amazon for allegedly breaching the lease. In response, Amazon filed a counterclaim, accusing the landlord of not fulfilling their responsibilities.
Despite these legal challenges, Upper Moreland Township manager Patrick Stasio confirmed in late September that plans for the store were still moving forward, with no indication otherwise.
Amazon Fresh stores traditionally offer staffed checkout lines and a convenient option for customers to use Amazon Dash Carts, which allow for easy payment through a linked Amazon account.
On October 10, Amazon announced enhancements to its fulfillment centers at 26 Amazon Fresh locations worldwide. These upgrades include a broader product selection from Whole Foods, Amazon Fresh and national brands like Coke and Kraft. This will give customers more variety at different price points.
Additionally, in September, Amazon introduced new discounts for Prime members. It also launched a private-label brand, and made improvements to the online shopping experience.
A new Amazon Fresh store recently opened in Oxford Valley, Bucks County, joining other nearby locations in Warrington and Bensalem. The Willow Grove store, located at 102 Park Avenue (formerly Barnes & Noble), is expected to open soon.
