African American Museum in Philadelphia and Philabundance Partner on Hunger Action Month Food Drive
The African American Museum in Philadelphia and Philabundance are partnering on a food drive for Hunger Action Month.
From Thursday, September 12 to Sunday, September 29, 2024, the two organizations will be collecting non-perishable food items.
This effort coincides with the African American Museum in Philadelphia’s new initiative, “AAMP in the Community,” where the Museum connects with community-based organizations, both locally and throughout the tri-state region, to support unserved and underserved communities.
Through the “AAMP in the Community” initiative, AAMP aims to expand its impact while uplifting and supporting the communities they serve.
According to a 2022 study conducted by the USDA, 1 in 5 Black people experience food hunger. This equates to nearly 9 million Black people throughout the country who do not have access to enough or an adequate source of food to feed their families.
Nationally, 17 percent of Black families are more likely to experience poverty than compared to other races.
AAMP is recommending those who can to try and donate at least three of the following 10 most-needed items:
- Peanut Butter & Jelly
- Cooking Oil
- Canned Stew & Soups
- Oatmeal & Breakfast Cereal
- Whole Grain Pasta
- Canned Tuna or Meat
- Canned Fruits & Vegetables
- 100% Juice
- Rice
- Boxed, Non-Refrigerated Milk
