Philadelphia is a Top 10 City for Cat Lovers, According to New Ranking
A new U.S. News and World Report has released a new ranking of the top cities for cat lovers and Philadelphia was included in the top 10, writes Cherise Lynch for NBC 10 Philadelphia.
The new study placed Philadelphia as the sixth most popular city in America for cat lovers.
“To help give you an idea of the popularity of cat ownership in different areas, we analyzed a database of registered cats across the U.S. to determine which cities have the most cats,” the report said.
The researchers studied things like local pet insurance prices, the area’s cost of living, and lifestyle options available for people living in the city.
Philadelphia trailed behind densely populated cities such as Los Angeles, New York City, and Chicago.
“This could be because apartments, which are common in these cities, may be seen by some as better suited to cats than dogs due to size constraints,” the study said. “Some apartment dwellers may be more likely to adopt a cat — though of course, many people simply prefer feline companions.”
Brooklyn and Seattle round out the top five, just above Philadelphia.
The remaining cities that comprised the top 10 were San Diego, San Francisco, San Jose, and Portland.
