Schwenksville Man Has Been a Dedicated Philly Sports Fan Since 1960
Brendan Costello, a dedicated 72-year-old sports fan from Schwenksville, has either listened to or watched nearly all title victories of Philadelphia teams since 1960, writes Dave Uram for KYW Newsradio.
Costello remembers the Eagles going all the way that year, which he listened to on the radio. In 1967, he watched the Sixers take the title, and in the mid-70s, he was there when the Flyers won a pair of Stanley Cups.
“So I’ve been watching Philadelphia sports and listening to it ever since I was in elementary school,” he said.
His fandom has also included modern-day victories, such as the Eagles finally winning the Super Bowl in the 2017-18 season.
“Kind of came full circle,” said Costello’s stepson Jim Taglioli.
Costello has been sharing his Philadelphia sports memories with his stepson and other members of his family for decades.
“He’s been in my life since I was a kid — it’s all he’s talked about,” said Taglioli.
Whenever a Philadelphia team wins, Costello reminds his grandkids how fortunate they are to get to enjoy all of the wonderful competitive teams that Philadelphia currently has.
