In the third of a series of events throughout June in celebration of Black Music Month, the African American Museum in Philadelphia will highlight the Black experience through jazz and blues.

On Saturday, June 15, the African American Museum in Philadelphia will host an event titled, “Rhythms of Liberation from Juneteenth to Beyond: Jazz and Blues.”

The event highlights the jazz and blues music genres, and allows guests to take a trip down memory lane while diving into the sultry sounds of Nina Simone, Miles Davis, Jon Batiste, Esperanza Spalding, and many others.

Those in attendance who feel motivated to do so will also be welcome to hit the mic, as well, and hit the crowd with spoken word performances or poetry accompanied by the soulful sounds of jazz and blues.

The free event consists of an evening with a DJ, live entertainment, vendors, food, drinks, and more.

The DJ, Philadelphia-based DuiJi 13, is known as “the Mayor of Vinyl,” and has transformed the role of the DJ from entertainer to community asset. Deeply passionate with music, he connects with his audiences through adventurous DJ sets spanning decades, as well as genres and continents, uniquely tailoring selections for each situation.

Guests are encouraged to savor the moment with food and visit the JellyKisses Lounge for a smooth glass of whiskey. In addition, a free glass of wine will also be available courtesy of AAMP’s wine sponsor, City Winery.

Everyone is also encouraged to help support Black entrepreneurs by shopping with vendors locally sourced by All Black Everything.

The “Rhytms of Liberation from Juneteenth to Beyond: Jazz and Blues” event will take place at the AAMP Plaza on June 15 from 4 PM to 8 PM.
