East Passyunk Rowhome Receives Makeover Inspired by New Orleans Hotel
A tired East Passyunk rowhouse received a full makeover inspired by a New Orleans hotel, writes Kristin Detterline for Philadelphia Magazine.
Chestnut Hill interior designer Michelle Gage was happy to work on the two-story, 2,300-square-foot property that showed a lot of promise for one of her former clients.
“She grew up in New Orleans and wanted the house to look like a boutique hotel there called the Chloe,” said Gage.
Instead of a face-lift, the designer and the owner decided to do a full gut renovation.
Gage had to especially focus on the transition between rooms on the main level.
“The line of sight extends from the front door to the kitchen in the back,” she said. “You can’t make the patterns too bold when you see six rooms at once.”
For the primary bedroom, Gage opted for the House of Hackney wallpaper with a floral pattern and a bedspread from the same designer.
The new bedroom suite uses the owner’s existing Villa & House dresser and chair and incorporated a vintage chandelier and rug.
Purple is the primary color in the kitchen, which was fitted with custom cabinetry by Philadelphia’s Steven Kumpf Woodworks.
Meanwhile, the dining room was fully reimagined as an inviting lounge with Brunschwig & Fils wallpaper.
