A Small Bookshop on Lansdale’s Main Street is a Hub for Black Culture and History

By

When author Shaykh Anwar Muhammad moved to the Lansdale area, one of the first things he noticed was that there was a dearth of places to learn Black culture and history, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

To fill that need in the community, in 2017 he opened his own small bookshop specializing in Black literature on Main Street in Lansdale.

The Black Reserve Bookstore is open to anyone hungry to learn about something new, Muhammad said.

Besides literature and comics, Muhammad also sells apparel, jewelry, art, incense, and soaps.

The shop offers opportunities for education, book readings and signings, speeches, and school supply giveaways.

Muhammad is hosting a free celebration of Black History Month in partnership with The Ambler Branch of the NAACP with a reception and movie at The Ambler Theater on Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024.
