Marcus Morris was recently honored by Philadelphia City Council for his work on the basketball court and in the Philadelphia community.

Marcus Morris may be one of the newer additions to the Philadelphia 76ers, but Philadelphia is his home, as highlighted when he was honored with a key to the city, writes Cory Sharber for WHYY.

On January 11, Philadelphia City Council honored Morris for his basketball career and the work he has done through the Family Over Everything Foundation.

Alongside his twin brother, Markieff, the Morris twins have worked to aid members of Philadelphia’s underserved communities through the organization since 2017.

Before the twins were drafted into the NBA in 2011, they were born and raised in North Philadelphia and played basketball at Prep Charter High School in Point Breeze.

“I would be nothing without the city. Any team I’ve ever been on, any time I’ve been announced, they always say from North Philadelphia,” said Marcus Morris.

For him, it’s always been more than just sports.

Morris has also committed to giving back and being a positive example to others.

However, he always remembers where he came from.

“Basketball gave me the platform to be able to help people, but my family, my friends, and the people around me, they always took us in. Everybody had a part in my career and I’m very thankful for that,” Morris said.
