Meetinghouse is a new Kensington bar/restaurant that replaced the Memphis Taproom.

Meetinghouse, a restaurant and bar in Kensington, has among the most delicious roast beef sandwiches in the city, writes Jason Sheehan for Philadelphia Magazine

Despite the tastiness of the sandwich, the establishment has other factors that make it worthwhile.

For example, there’s the ease and comfort of the place, the quality of service, and the “excellent” selection of house beers on tap.

Meetinghouse is a new feature to this space on the corner of Memphis and East Cumberland streets in Kensington.

It replaced the Memphis Taproom, which stood in that spot for over 15 years before permanently closing its doors in January 2023.

For Sheehan, Meetinghouse more than makes up for its predecessor in the Memphis Taproom.

“Meetinghouse is a brand-new neighborhood bar that feels like an old neighborhood bar, in a space that’s been a neighborhood bar for as long as anyone can remember,” he said.

Whether it’s the sandwiches and other food on the menu, the beer and other beverages as part of the special, or the vibes of the establishment itself, some who came to love the Memphis Taproom are in for a good opportunity to gain a new favorite in its replacement.
