Masala Kitchen currently has 2 locations in Center City, and in the spring, will open a third in University City.

Already with two locations in Center City, fast-casual Indian restaurant, Masala Kitchen: Kati rolls and Platters, will be expanding to University City in 2024, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The restaurant’s third location will be on the 3400 block of Sansom Street near Irish pub, New Deck Tavern and an outpost of Fearless Restaurants’ White Dog Cafe.

Owner Vaishal Soni said he hopes the new eatery will be open by late March.

For over a year, he has been looking for a University City location to make the brand more accessible to its regular customers.

Many of them are university students.

“We have a lot of customers coming from University City, and because they are students they cannot come everyday,” Soni said.

The university restaurant will span about 1,500 square feet and offer between 40 and 45 seats, with the menu being the same as its two other existing locations.

The other Masala locations are in Midtown Village and Rittenhouse Square, which opened in 2016 and 2019, respectively.
