Madia Willis, J'Aaron Merchant, and Madia Wills co-founded Black Party Paper after noticing a glaring gap in the market when it came to holiday decorations and wrapping paper that authentically represented our diverse communities.

An inclusive wrapping paper design startup founded by a Philadelphia entrepreneur, Black Paper Party, will be appearing in an upcoming episode of the hit ABC show ‘Shark Tank,’ writes Lisa Dukart for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The company was founded by three Black women: CEO Madia Willis, chief creative officer J’Aaron Merchant, and chief merchant Jasmine Hudson

The company sells a wide range of holiday and Christmas-related products that feature Black families and give a nod to African-American culture.

Currently, its products can be purchased on the brand’s company website, as well as several major retailers, such as Target, Walmart, CVS, Macy’s, Family Dollar, and Dollar General.

Black Paper Party sells an exclusive line of items at Walmart and Target, where Willis previously worked.

She describes the Walmart line as having “a retro throwback feel” and is “a little bit nostalgic.”

Upon falling in love with textiles, Willis decided to partake in a master’s program in textile design at Philadelphia University, now part of Thomas Jefferson University

She started Black Paper Party with Merchant and Hudson in 2019, and officially launched the brand in 2020.

While some products have already sold out, the upcoming ‘Shark Tank’ appearance will likely bring even more exposure to the brand.
