Philadelphia Ranks as 8th Most ‘House Rich’ Major City in the Nation, According to New All Star Home Study
All Star Home recently released its latest study, which looks at the rates of home affordability across the United States, and Philadelphia isn’t too far from the top.
To boil it down, it uses the term “house rich” to describe places where homeownership is dominant and homes are relatively affordable compared to the local median income.
When it comes to major U.S. cities, Philadelphia ranks number 8 on the list with a “House Rich Score” of 1.6644.
To calculate the score, All Star Home adjusts the home-value-to-income ratio by factoring in the rate of homes not occupied by their owners.
In Philadelphia, the home-value-to-income ratio is 3.50, while the owner-occupied housing unit rate is 52.40%.
Pennsylvania is also among the most “house-rich” states in the U.S., ranking 13th overall with a 0.8991 house-rich score.
It’s home-value-to-income ratio and owner-occupied housing unit rate is 2.92 and 69.20%, respectively.
