The Fishtown secondhand shop Thunderbird Salvage is offering a 10-piece dining set for sale that once belonged to the late Jerry Blavat for $5,000.

A secondhand shop Thunderbird Salvage on Frankford Avenue in Fishtown is offering a 10-piece dining set for sale that once belonged to the late Jerry Blavat for $5,000, writes Kristin Hunt for the Philly Voice.

The set includes eight high-back chairs made by the Italian furniture maker Costantini Pietro along with two lacquered wooden tables that feature glass tops made in France. The smaller table has three built-in drawers and two cabinets.

A 7-foot cactus that belonged to the “Geator With the Heator” was also available for sale but it has since been snatched up for $500.

Owner of Thunderbird Salvage George Mathes acquired the set after the Barry S. Slosberg auction house decided to pass on the set due to the high moving costs. The auctioneers believed the risk was too high and offered it to Mathes, along with everything else that was still in Blavat’s former Society Hill Towers condo.

Mathes decided to claim the dining set, the cactus, a king-size mattress, and an inversion table, which he has no intention of selling.

“It’s my risk now,” said Mathes.

Blavat died at age 82 in January.
