Da'Vine Joy Randolph is a veteran actress with Philadelphia roots.

Despite the Oscars being several months away, the name Da’Vine Joy Randolph is one to be on the lookout for, writes Kristin Hunt for Phillyvoice

She could be a strong candidate to win Best Supporting Actress when the 96th edition of the Academy Awards rolls around next March.

Randolph is a Philadelphia native, having spent part of her childhood growing up in Mount Airy before moving to Hershey, Pennsylvania. She later returned to the city to attend college at Temple University

Her acting career launched in 2013, but her most recent role is getting acclaim.

In the new comedic film, “The Holdovers,” she plays the role of Mary, a woman who runs the kitchen at a New England prep school set in 1970.

Randolph has had roles in several movies and television over the past decade, and range is something very important to her.

“I never want to get pigeonholed or known for one thing,” she said in a 2022 New York Times interview.

Randolph currently stars as Detective Donna Williams in “Only Murders in the Building,” on Hulu.

Only time will tell if she will be holding up her first Oscar in a few months’ time.
