Temple University Unveils Brand New Athletics Logo with New-look Version of Its Iconic Owl
Temple University has unveiled its new athletics logo which boasts a more stylized version of its iconic owl with its wings outstretched enveloping the famous “T,” according to a staff report from 6abc.
The image is surrounded by a diamond shape in recognition of a famous speech by Temple’s founder Russell Conwell.
The logo was created by Joe Bosack, a Temple alum, with the help of students. The university already has merchandise with the new logo available for sale.
According to the school’s officials, the aim is to embrace a modern design while at the same time calling back to the school’s history.
“When we set out to update our previous mark, we were looking for something that would really represent the essence of who Owls are,” said Acting Temple President JoAnne A. Epps. “We wanted something that would be recognizable and that our entire community could rally around. This mark is everything we wanted.”
The school’s primary mark will still be the “Temple T,” said the university.
Hooter and Stella are also not going anywhere, added Temple.
