Dan Hilferty, new CEO of Comcast-Spectacor, is also governor of the Flyers; he intends to be much more hands on with the team.

Ardmore resident Dan Hilferty will take over the CEO role of Comcast Spectacor on Apr 17. With that role comes governorship responsibilities for the Philadelphia Flyers, which Hilferty plans to manage with greater attention, as reported by Kevin Durso at 97.3 ESPN South Jersey.

Hilferty’s new role with Comcast Spectacor and the Flyers resulted from the retirement of chairman Dave Scott after 30 years of leadership.

Hilferty will immediately helm Comcast Spectacor; his hockey oversight begins July 1.

Despite the prominent role of the Flyers among the Comcast Spectacor assets, the prevailing thought about Hilferty’s involvement with the team would be low-key.

Hilferty is countering that assumption, saying that now, the sports franchise is in the hands of a “tenacious Flyers fan.”

An early priority will be the hiring of a new general manager, a pressing need in light of Danny Briere’s interim role in the aftermath of the March firing of Chuck Fletcher. Hilferty intends to be a key voice in the next leadership hire.

As well, Hilferty will be filling a president of hockey operations slot and voicing opinions on player statuses for next season and beyond.

More on Dan Hilferty and the Flyers is at 97.3 ESPN South Jersey.
