Washington Post: Brian Johnson, Eagles’ QBs Coach, Has Bright Future Ahead of Him
The Eagles’ Brian Johnson, one of the few Black quarterback coaches, has a bright future ahead of him, writes Michael Lee for The Washington Post.
His knowledge and passion for the game landed Johnson in the Super Bowl, coaching Jalen Hurts, an MVP runner-up. The leap that the star quarterback made in his second season with the Eagles as a full-time starter has been attributed in part to the tutelage of Johnson, one of the coveted assistants in football.
“He’s going to be a star one day,” said Hurts. “I have no doubt in my mind. Hopefully, we can keep him here as long as we possibly can. Nonetheless, I’m proud of him, and it’s definitely just the beginning for both of us.”
Johnson has served as an offensive coordinator at three college programs, and he became the first African-American offensive coordinator in the history of the Florida program. His fast rise could soon lead Johnson to call plays in the NFL.
“My estimation is he’ll be a head coach in the NFL in the next two to three years,” said University of Utah Coach Kyle Whittingham. “That’s how much I think of him.”
