Philadelphia has several iconic food staples, with cheesesteaks being one of them.
With so many different shops to choose from for a delicious cheesesteak, one pizzeria in South Philadelphia stands out having earned a near cult-like following, writes Ceara Milligan for Mashed.
That would be Angelo’s Pizzeria.
In just over 5 years, the pizza shop has earned a strong reputation from both locals and visitors for its cheesesteaks’ size and juiciness.
One Yelp reviewer wrote about the cheesesteaks: “My first Philly cheesesteak in Philly and it’s worth the hype. Definitely recommend for that authentic Philly cheesesteak, not tourist trap.
The footlong cheesesteaks are created with a seeded, house-made hoagie roll, thinly sliced ribeye steak, Cooper Sharp cheese, and fried onions.
Another reviewer praised the crunch and fluffiness of the sesame roll, the sandwiches’ flavor, the tenderness of the steak, and the perfectly-melted cheese.
At Angelo’s, long lines often wrap around the block as so many hungry individuals wait for their turn to indulge in the cheesesteaks and more before they sell out.
Owner Danny DiGiampietro strives to provide high-quality comfort food, as it’s quite clear that customers near and far are taking note.
