North Face will be closing its Center City store in January 2025 after over 15 years.

North Face has announced that it will be closing its Center City store in January 2025, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

As a result of the closure, 17 layoffs will occur.

The store has been there, as part of Philadelphia’s premiere retail corridor on Walnut Street, since 2009.

According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, the closure is due to the expiration of North Face’s lease.

With an annual payroll of nearly $114,000, the closure will result in a local tax revenue hit of $9,319.

In addition to its soon-to-close Center City location, North Face has locations at the King of Prussia and Cherry Hill malls.

Retail occupancy in Center City has remained relatively flat over the past year, sitting at 83 percent, according to Center City District.
