General Recreation in Newtown Square Helps With Camden Park Playground
A playground for special needs children is being planned as part of a $2 million rebuild of Camden Park in Camden, New Jersey, writes Neill Borowski for TAPinto Camden.
Called in to help create the Jake’s Place All-Inclusive Play Area is General Recreation, Inc. in Newtown Square.
This Jake’s Place will be the third installed by Camden County.
“The county’s position on playgrounds is that they all should be inclusive,” County Commissioner Jeffrey Nash told TAPinto Camden. “There should be no barriers to playing on a playground.”
Jake’s Place is a special design, “an integrated play area in which all children, those who are able and those with disabilities, can play interactively.”
The goal is to create a play area that is barrier-free, socially-inviting, with play-environment groupings, according to the nonprofit Jake’s Place website.
Community meetings will take place to determine what residents want in the new park, Nash added.
The county is applying for New Jersey Green Acres Program funding for the park. It hopes to get as much as $1 million for Jake’s Place, Nash said.
