Jacquin’s in Kensington is America’s Oldest Producer of Cordials
Charles Jacquin et Cie., better known as Jacquin’s, founded in 1884, has been bottling liquor in Kensington since 1941 and prides itself on being America’s oldest producer of cordials, write Jenn Ladd and Lauren Schneiderman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
During its peak production season, which lasts from May to September, the company churns out at least 7,000 cases of booze daily. This mostly includes Pennsylvania Dutch Egg Nog and other variants of its popular cream liqueurs.
However Jacquin’s portfolio is not limited just to those liquors. It includes 145 products, such as its namesake line of bargain-priced vodka, rum, and gin, as well as its colorful cordials.
Despite producing more drinks than any other facility in Philadelphia, Jacquin’s factory remains a mystery to many. The company didn’t even have a website until 2020, and its storefront is barely noticeable.
“A lot of people … just look at this place and have no idea what it is or who we are,” said plant manager Jim Logan.
The company is now working to change that with a tasting room, currently in the early stages of planning, that will offer locals drinks and tours.
For Jacquin’s, the goal is to modernize the 140-year-old spirits maker while maintaining its legacy.
