Citizens took to Facebook to post pictures of mysterious drones flying all over Montgomery County, increasing concerns for safety.

Drone sightings that initially started in the New Jersey sky has extended across the country, including in Montgomery County, writes Tony Di Domizio for The Reporter.

Reports began on Thursday shortly after sunset in Lansdale, Sellersville, and Chalfont. Facebook users first reported drones over Roy Lomas in Towamencin Township and the Lowe’s in Hatfield. By 8 P.M., reports expanded to Gwynedd Square Elementary School, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale.

Throughout the night, people reported drones in North Wales, Harleysville, Souderton, along the Northeast Extension, and over the former Willow Grove Naval Air Station.

Those who reported the drones noted that they seemed to fly too fast and high to be a standard hobbyist’s drone.

Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick called for a federal investigation. He addressed Homeland Security, the FBI, and the FAA in a letter calling for a collaboration between federal and local officials to enforce Unmanned Aircraft Systems regulations.

The FBI has asked for citizens to submit photos, videos, and any other information, to contribute to their investigation. Officials in New Jersey where the sightings began maintain that the drones pose no safety threat.
