Gov. Shapiro signed an executive order Tuesday that aims to accelerate major economic and infrastructure projects throughout Pennsylvania.

Gov. Josh Shapiro signed an executive order Tuesday morning to help accelerate major economic and infrastructure projects across Pennsylvania, writes  Nigel Thompson for KYW Newsradio.

The order aims to fast-track the permit process in the state.

Shapiro signed the order at the site of the 2019 Philadelphia Energy Solutions refinery explosion. The site is now slated to become The Bellwether District, a massive life sciences and e-commerce development.

“These big, complex projects, like Bellwether, are really important for us to streamline and organize around,” said Shapiro.

Shapiro noted that during his campaign, he often heard from the business community about the lengthy process of obtaining permits.

“I recognize that time is money,” he said. “It’s true for business, and it’s true for our workers. Using fast track, we’re gonna speed up permitting for big, complex, major economic development and infrastructure projects all across Pennsylvania.”

The new initiative also introduces a dashboard for project managers to track required permits at both state and municipal levels.

Other projects that the initiative will aid include a new tech center in Northeast Pennsylvania and a methane digester in Western Pennsylvania.
