Washington Post: Where in Philadelphia Are Presidential Campaign Online Donations Coming From?
A new Washington Post analysis of online contributions to the two presidential campaigns has found that more people donated to Kamala Harris than Donald Trump, writes Clara Ence Morse, Kevin Schaul, and Azi Paybarah for the publication.
In Philadelphia, several ZIP codes stand out for their highest levels of political contributions. Some of the top areas include:
- 19107 – Covering parts of Center City, this area saw substantial donations to both Democratic and Republican campaigns; however, it primarily skewed Democratic, with an average contribution of over $1,000.
- 19147 – South Philadelphia neighborhoods in this area have a large base of politically active residents, contributing to Democratic campaigns heavily, with contributions averaging $134 each.
- 19131 – Covering sections of West Philadelphia, this ZIP has strong political engagement, with donations primarily supporting Democratic initiatives. Average contributions hover around $128.
- 19130 – Also in West Philly, including neighborhoods like Fairmount, this ZIP code has seen significant donations, averaging $179 per contribution, mostly directed toward progressive causes.
- 19143 – Known for its diversity, this Southwest Philadelphia ZIP has a wide range of political contributors; however, on a smaller scale per donation, averaging around $91.
These areas reflect a high level of political engagement and financial support, largely in favor of Democratic and progressive causes across Philly’s urban landscape.
