Rosenberg's Peanut Chews was founded in Northeast Philadelphia in 1890 by Romanian immigrant, David Rosenberg.

Everyone has their favorite Halloween candies, and Pennsylvania area is no stranger in producing candy that is now among the most popular in the nation, writes Leigh Green for PA Eats.

Philadelphia is the city that Goldenberg’s Peanut Chew was born.

The chocolate-peanut butter candy features crunchy peanuts embedded in super chewy molasses covered in dark chocolate and formed into a small, fun-sized bar.

Consumers can now enjoy the candy in different shapes and sizes, as well as a milk chocolate version and bulk packs that are perfect for Halloween.

Goldenberg’s Peanut Chew was founded by Romanian immigrant David Goldenberg, who founded the candy company in 1890.

He started selling from a small storefront on Frankford Avenue, first producing peanut chews during World War I as rations for soldiers. High in protein and packed with energy, the bars became a big hit, which helped it launch as a retail item not longer after the first World War ended.

By the 1930s, the peanut chews evolved from full-size bars to individual pieces.

Today, Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews and the original Northeast Philadelphia manufacturing facility are owned by Bethlehem-based Just Born.
