Donated Classrooms Give St. Francis of Assisi Students a Place to Learn
As investigators continue to search for the cause of an Oct. 7 fire that devastated St. Francis of Assisi School in Springfield, another school has stepped up with nine classrooms for the displaced students.
The fire destroyed the building that housed the lower grades of the school, writes Madeleine Wright for CBS Philadelphia.
There have been no classes in the last week and a half for the 150 affected students.
Now nearby St. Kevin’s School has stepped up with its offer of the nine classrooms.
The lower grade St. Francis students started at St. Kevin’s on Monday. Students in the upper classrooms are already back at St. Francis in their undamaged building.
“We’re hoping that in the next two months, we can get the school classroom modulars put on the St. Francis campus, so that way we can all be together,” said St. Francis of Assisi School Principal Nicole Hamilton. “Being separate is not my goal at all.”
St. Francis school has also received a large number of school supply donations, from pencils and chalk to protractor and scissors, all of which are being stored in St. Kevin’s cafeteria,
