African American Museum in Philadelphia to Host Sojourner Truth-Inspired Storytime Event, Family Fun Day
The African American Museum in Philadelphia will soon be treating guests with an unforgettable adventure.
On Sunday, October 13, AAMP will be hosting its “AAMP Family Fun Day: History is Alive! Sojourner Truth Storytime” at the Museum.
At the event, families will have the opportunity to step into history with the legendary Sojourner Truth.
Starting at 1 PM, guests can meet Sojourner Truth in the Conversations Gallery for a Black History pop quiz game. Those who stop by the front desk can grab materials for the scavenger hunt to uncover clues hidden throughout the museum’s galleries.
At 2 PM, the youngest guests and their families are invited to gather in the Jack T. Franklin Auditorium to take part in an electrifying story time. During this time, they can listen and learn as the reenacted voice of Sojourner Truth delivers a dramatic reading about life on the Underground Railroad with her brave companions.
Dr. Daisy Century will reenact the reading. Century, a powerful singer, scholar, and artist helps bring to life a woman who was undeterred by the incredible obstacles she faced.
At the end of the performance, the audience will have the opportunity to sign Sojourner Truth’s Book of Life, which will signify their connection to her strong legacy.
The “AAMP Family Fun Day: History is Alive! Sojourner Truth Storytime” event is scheduled to take place Sunday, Oct. 13 from 1 PM to 3 PM.
