WSJ: West Philly Native Quinta Brunson Talks Upcoming Season of ‘Abbott Elementary’ and More
West Philadelphia native Quinta Brunson first found fame in 2014 through comedic sketches posted on Instagram.
Fast forward a decade later, and Brunson is the creator of the successful weekly half-hour family-friendly ABC sitcom, Abbott Elementary, writes Ashley Wong for The Wall Street Journal.
The show will be returning for its fourth season on Wednesday, October 9. After last season was shortened due to the SAG-AFTRA strikes, Brunson is looking forward to this season’s full 22-episode slate.
“I love them all like they’re my children,” she said of the episodes.
The show follows the lives of teachers at an underfunded Philadelphia public school. The title is in honor by Brunson’s favorite sixth-grade teacher and partially inspired by her mother’s decades-long career as a kindergarten teacher. Brunson plays perpetually upbeat second-grade teacher Janine Teagues on the show.
While she won’t express what exactly the episode is about, Brunson said she is really looking forward to seeing the reaction to the fifth episode of the season.
“It’s something I’ve wanted to do since season 1, and I think it’s a really great character thing for Gregory,” said Brunson. “It’s an episode that shows a lot of growth, and it explores who he is not only as an educator, but as a man.”
